One of the major changes introduced with this flight is the redesigned “Open With” dialog box, which was perhaps one of the only UI design features in Windows 11 that was not in tune with the rest of the OS. Let us see in detail what this update means for us.

New in Windows 11 Build 25151

Redesigned “Open With” UI

Microsoft has finally brought back the redesigned UI for the “Open With” dialog box that you see when you want to select a program of your choice to open a file/document. We say “brought back” because this feature was earlier introduced to the Windows 11 OS but was later pulled back. Note that Microsoft has not officially announced this feature in the release notes for this flight, probably because it is not yet available to every Insider on the Dev channel. Only select devices will be able to see this change after upgrading to build 25151.

Other Improvements and Fixes

Other changes and fixes have also been made with this flight:

[File Explorer]A scaling issue that could result in the tabs being unexpectedly large has been fixed.Right-clicking a tab and then clicking somewhere else in the File Explorer should dismiss the context menu more reliably now.[Other]The unexpected reboot of the PC when shutting it down from the Start menu has been fixed.A high-hitting Windows Security app crash has been fixed. The Exclusions page in the Windows Security app has been updated so that file paths now make better use of the available space rather than truncating when space is still available. An underlying issue that was causing a crash when trying to delete ports in printui /s has been fixed. An issue causing printing to not work from UWP apps for some Insiders in the last 2 flights has been addressed.

With these new features, improvements, and fixes, there are also a few known issues we think you should know about before upgrading to this build.

Known Issues

[General]There are reports that the Mica material and Acrylic blur effect is not rendering correctly on OS surfaces like the Start menu, Notification Center, and other areas. Some games that use Easy Anti-Cheat may crash or cause your PC to bugcheck. There are reports that some Insiders are experiencing bugchecks with the error message KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED in NetAdapterCx.sys starting with Build 25145.[File Explorer]The up arrow is misaligned in the File Explorer tabs. This will be fixed in a future update. There are reports that launching the File Explorer in a certain way when using dark mode (for example, from the command line) is showing the body of File Explorer unexpectedly in light mode.[Widgets]There is an issue that causes Widgets preferences (temperature units and pinned widgets) to unexpectedly get reset to default.[Live captions]Certain apps in full screen (e.g., video players) prevent live captions from being visible.Certain apps positioned near the top of the screen and closed before live captions are run will re-launch behind the live captions window positioned at the top. Use the system menu (ALT + Spacebar) while the app has focus to move the app’s window further down.
